Avatar, This weekend, James Cameron‘s original “Avatar” will have its television debut before the release of its follow-up, “The Way of Water,” which enters theaters on December 16. The 2009 movie, which continues to have the largest unadjusted box office earnings of all time, will air on ABC on December 11 at 7 p.m. PT/ET. On December 15 and 18, it will also air on FX, and on December 26, it will air on Freeform. Prior to the anticipated sequel, the movie was also made available to view on Disney last month.
The first “Avatar” is regarded as a technological production pioneer since it used 3D motion capture animation and CGI to build a photorealistic world on a scale that no other movie had achieved at the time. Cameron started making the movie in the 1990s, but he had to wait for more advanced technology to build the iconic world of Pandora.
The movie received significant criticism for excluding the extended cut from the special edition’s extensive list of features when it first debuted on Disney+ in 2019 as part of the streaming service’s Launch Day. The movie has since returned to the platform after being around for its theatrical rerelease earlier in the fall.
The sequel, “The Way of Water,” which debuts 13 years after the first, is set more than ten years after the first movie’s events. The Sully family—Jake, Neytiri, and their children—are followed throughout the novel as they leave their houses and travel around Pandora. Jake is once again forced to fight the humans when a long-forgotten menace reappears.
