Janakpur is the centre for religious and cultural tourism. Janakpur is sub metropolitan city in Dhanusha district. Janakpur is the best place to visit. It is surrounded by rivers like Dudhmati, Jalad, Rato, Balan and Kamala. The major festivals celebrated in here are Ram Navami, Vivah Panchami, holi, Vijaya Dashami, Deepawali and Chhat.
The religious places to visit in there are Janaki temple, Shree Ram Janaki Biwaha Mandap, Dudhmati Mahadev Mandir and Ratna sagar temple. Janaki mandir is a hindu temple located in Janakpur which is the mithila region of Nepal. This temple is dedicated to Goddess Sita. The design of this temple is Hindu-koiri Nepali architecture.
You can also visit in Shree Ram Janaki Biwaha Mandap which is right beside Ram Janaki Mandir. The temple architecture is really unique and of course beautiful. The design of this is so beautiful and well maintained that you may feel you are right present in the biwaha mandap. It is the exact spot of Ram and Sita’s marriage. The statue in there is so amazing. There is beautiful garden where you can spend time.
In Janakpur there is Ganga Sagar as well. Gangs Sagar is really huge in famous in Janakpur. In terms of its location it is closed to Janakmahal. It is one of the most important pool. There is a place Dhanushadham which is situated 18 km north-east of Janakpurdham. It is the place where broken remains which God Ram broke God Shiva bow to obtain Sita’s hand in marriage.
It is still believed to be present here. Every Sunday in the month of magh there use to take a Makar mela and hindu devotees from around the world flee here to pay homage. In the south of Janakpur there is Jaleshwor which has famous Shiva temple. Well the Shiva lingam is situated in 20 feet below the surface of temple. It is reached by narrow stone stairway. There are two large ponds on either side of the temple.
