In a new trailer, “Barbie” and “Ken” look into the “real world” and life on their own two feet.

We’re going to go ahead and call today “the best day ever” because the new trailer for the Greta Gerwig-directed “Barbie” movie debuted on Thursday and gives the first comprehensive look at Barbie (Margot Robbie) and Ken (Ryan Gosling) leaving Barbie Land to explore the “real world.” That is, until a fully fledged existential crisis is witnessed in Barbie.

Barbie tells her friends, “Some things have been happening that might be related,” adding that she’s taken a “cold shower” and fallen off her roof instead of floating like she usually does. The worst part is not even that. In response to her Barbie friends’ screams and gasps at the sight of Barbie’s flat feet, Barbie says, “And my heels… are on the ground.” Chaos reigns, and it’s hilarious. Barbie visits Kate McKinnon’s “Weird Barbie,” who advises her that she needs to enter the “real world,” as she attempts to solve this issue. Weird Barbie offers Barbie the option to choose between the pink pump or the truth about the universe, saying, “You can go back to your normal life or you can know the truth about the universe.”

So begins Barbie and Ken’s journey through the real world. Barbie in a real-world setting? Gloria, a character played by America Ferrera, says, “That’s impossible.” Barbie’s clumsy exploration of the outside world is shown in clips as “Make Your Own Kind of Music” by Cass Elliot plays in the background. Barbie is seen being arrested, Ken attempting to operate on a human appendix, and Barbie evading the evil Will Farrell-played CEO of Mattel who is determined to put her “back in a box.” Additionally, it was revealed on Thursday that Dua Lipa, Lizzo, Haim, Tame Impala, Nicki Minaj, and one of the film’s stars, Ryan Gosling—whose musical number did not appear in the film—are among the musicians who are featured on the soundtrack.
